It’s Official!

Dear friends,

We are very excited to announce a new endeavor!

The Little Sea Folk Festival will launch in June of 2018 in Portland, Maine and we would love for you to join us. Specific festival details will be announced later on, including specific date, location, and that sort of stuff, but for now, we wanted to let you know that we have spent the last few months getting our 501(c)(3) organization, Little Sea Folk, in good order.

Little Sea Folk will fund and manage the Little Sea Folk Festival in the same way that Newport Festivals Foundation manages and funds the Newport Folk Festival, for example. We are committed to a celebration of music that is authentic, masterful, inspiring, inclusive, and an accurate representation of the various Celtic cultures as well as their influence in the development of American music styles. The initial budget for the festival will be upwards of $50,000 so we are starting our fundraising now. Grant writing, procurement, benefit events, and sponsor packages are all being pursued in hopes of meeting our fundraising goal by the end of the calendar year and setting this festival on a strong and sustainable foundation. We’d like this festival and organization to be around long after we are, dedicated to the rich Celtic culture in Maine.

Our inaugural festival will be a one-day event, with plans to grow into a two and then three day event in the following years. Music, dance, oral tradition, traditional crafts, language will be celebrated and included from as many of the Celtic traditions as possible in a living and relevant way. There will be no jousting. During the rest of the year, classes, lectures, concerts, dances, events, readings, and more, will make up the tapestry of Little Sea Folk.

The mission statement says this: Little Sea Folk is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion, preservation, education, and appreciation of folk music with a focus on Irish and Celtic music, culture, and history and its long tradition in the state of Maine. We are committed to every one of those things. And we’d love your help. Please mark your calendar for June 2018 and check back often. Our website is, we have a facebook, instagram, and twitter account which will become more active in the next bit. If you would like to contribute, please click here, or we are happy to take a check from you and can give you the mailing address. If you hear of anyone looking to support folk music in Maine, please send them our way. All contributions, cash or in-kind, are tax deductible and we are more than happy to provide a receipt for any donation.

Thank you so much and please reach out if you have any questions or interest!

Colleen, Hanz, Miles, & Elly
Your Devoted Board of Directors
